Blind Date

By Alton Hill
Have you ever been on a blind date? Would you go on a blind date with someone? When someone clicks on a link to your website, it’s like going on a blind date.

If you did go on a blind date, surely you would do what you could to look your best. You wouldn’t want to be waiting and someone see you and decide to walk right on by. That’s probably not a politically correct thing to say, but it’s reality. We’ve all seen the tv shows or heard the stories of blind dates gone wrong. The same is true about your website! You should have a website that when someone first lands on it, they want to stay there. They want to learn more about you or your product or yours service. You want them to enjoy the pictures, or read the articles, or get the information that they’re desiring.

I’ve seen website’s of service companies in the past that make it difficult to find the phone number to call them on their home page! That should never be the case. You want to convert that prospect to a caller as soon as possible! Your marketing gets people to land on your webpage, but the site has to do it’s part to help your lead take action.

Blind dates can go well. If they are to be the most successful, one should take the time to create the correct environment, and bring value to the table immediately. Here are a few things you can do with your website to ensure it’s brining immediate value.

  • Make sure your phone number or “contact us” information are visible and readily available.

  • Make sure that your website has colors that are easy on the eyes. You want your page easy to read and navigate. A black background with red lettering is much more difficult to read than a white background with black lettering.

  • No one wants to go on a date where the other person just talks about themselves the whole time. Put content on your site that engages the person visiting.

  • Use a call to action. If you want to go out on a second date it doesn’t hurt to say so!

These are only a few things to consider when building a website. These are simple things that can make tremendous difference whether you’re just building a website to be on the internet, or designing a website that works for you! Don’t just show up to your blind date…show up looking great and bringing value from the first moment! Your date say, "It was love at first sight!"
